Notes:
Earth Day was founded April 22, 1970, and many consider it to be the birth of the modern environmental movement.
Earth Day falls on April 22 each year, which is widely recognized as the "official" day by most groups. Often many other community events with an environmental theme are scheduled to coincide with the week Earth Day is celebrated. Although not recognized as a holiday in the US, it nonetheless receives as much attention and interest as major holidays like Thanksgiving.
There are few symbols or activities that are universally observed on Earth Day, that may stem from the number of people that participate each year. One source estimates 175 countries and over 500 million participants.
The closest Earth Day has come to any common symbol is the "Earth Day Flag" - a picture of the earth from space on a deep blue background. There are many songs that are performed on Earth Day, that generally fall into two categories. Popular songs by contemporary artists not specific to Earth Day that are under copyright, or new lyrics adapted to children's songs. Creating new lyrics that are easily translated into multiple languages, and set to a universally recognized melody in the public domain, does not appear to have been attempted.
The "Earth Day Anthem" below satisfies these requirements for a universal song associated with Earth Day. Ludwig van Beethoven's "Ode to Joy" melody is already the official anthem of the European Union (in that case purely instrumental without lyrics), the melody is widely recognized and easily performed, in the public domain, and originally composed for voice.
The underlying tune for "Ode to Joy" is in the public domain, HOWEVER, derivative music arrangements, lyrics, performances, and recordings published in the USA beginning 1923 and thereafter are generally not. This arrangement and original lyrics are under copyright - US Copyright Office Case Number 1-460476191.

Joyful Joyful we adore our earth in all its wonderment
Simple gifts of nature that all join into a paradise
Now we must resolve to protect her
Show her our love through out all time
With our gentle hand and touch
We make our home a newborn world
Now we must resolve to protect her
Show her our love through out all time
With our gentle hand and touch
We make our home a newborn world
